Is it just me, or is "Little House on the Prairie" inappropriate for children?

Just to be clear: the Little House television series has virtually nothing to do with the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which are wonderful and would be great to share with your children (I've read them all on an almost yearly basis since I was a little girl, into my late 20s now). The show, on the other hand, is a bunch of preachy, Michael Landon-centered melodrama.
